The Dean
The Cathedral community is led by the Dean of Waiapu, the Very Reverend Helen Jacobi. Helen was the first woman to be appointed Dean of a Cathedral in New Zealand (May 2004). She leads the Cathedral’s ministry of service to the city and Diocese. Helen has degrees in theology (London), social work (Wellington) and a Certificate in congregational development (New York). She is currently studying for a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching from Chicago, USA.
Dean Helen leads a team of experienced clergy and committed volunteers.
Rev Margaret Thompson
Cathedral Priest and Administrator who will be the friendly voice on the end of the phone. Margaret also leads worship.

Gary Bowler QSM
Nationally-acclaimed Choir Director and Organist. Gary is New Zealand’s longest serving cathedral organist.
Rev Jon Williams, Rev Dorothy Brooker, and Rev Richard Spence
Assisting clergy who lead worship at the Cathedral and Ormond Chapel, and undertake pastoral care. Rev Richard Spence is the chaplain to Seafarers.
Malcolm Smith
Verger who cares for the Cathedral grounds and building.
Diane Holmes
Op Shop Coordinator who manages the shop and its volunteers.
Elisabeth Paterson
Pastoral worker who cares in particular for elderly parishioners.
Jennifer Harris
Workplace chaplain and at the Cathedral contributes to liturgy and planning.
Cathedral leadership (Vestry and Chapter)
The Cathedral has two oversight bodies:
The Cathedral Chapter who are concerned with the Diocesan and community facing ministries and the Vestry who are responsible for the parish ministry and day to day running of the Cathedral.
